Individuals have an Inheritance Tax threshold of £325,000 for the 2009/10 tax year. Therefore should the net value of your estate exceed this threshold when you die, anything sum above this level could be taxed at 40%.

Over recent years house price increases (even after allowing for the recent downturn) have pushed an ever increasing number of people over the threshold. Its important to bear in mind that it’s not only the value of your estate when you die that is subject to the tax. Certain gifts that have been made during your lifetime may also be liable to the tax. Furthermore, Inheritance Tax must, in normal circumstances, be paid before your beneficiaries can inherit the assets you bequeath.

The CGA can help you assess your liability and, after ascertaining the total value of your assets, calculate the amount the taxman might collect if you do not take any steps to mitigate the tax.  With careful planning the impact can be minimised or even eliminated.

Since the Millennium more than 5,000 people have attended one of the CGA's highly regarded Seminars. The CGA's Senior Inheritance Tax specialist, Mike Healy, provides a number of proven solutions and up-to-the-minute advice on legislative changes to those interested in reducing their liability. His 'let's not get lost in jargon' approach is invariably very popular. In March 2009 one seminar delegate wrote, "Mike Healy is a font of knowledge and puts it over so well that even a tax ignoramus like myself can understand and benefit from the points he makes. An excellent seminar."

Benefiting  from a team of highly respected and experienced consultants, who specialise in providing a range of potential solutions that can substantially reduce the amount of Inheritance Tax to be paid, the CGA is ideally placed to answer clients' most common question, “Can I avoid Inheritance Tax?”

Through carefully planned, tried and tested schemes we can help ensure that your beneficiaries receive the great majority, or sometimes even all, of your estate. With a lonstanding history we continue to deal with several clients and estates where primogeniture remains the preferred course of action.

Having correct Inheritance tax planning could save your family a substantial amount of money. Without proper tax planning, many people will end up having a huge tax liability. The CGA can be relied on to take the weight of Inheritance Tax concerns off of your shoulders and ensure your legacy ends up exactly where you want it to end up!
